I thought the SME arm was low mass - but I may be mixing up the models. If you don't have that RIAA, the choise of LOMC might creat quite a bit of noise and a mismatch of load impedance and capacitance which will make the sound dull or masked. If you happen to have a great stand alone RIAA, you might benefit from the LOMC higher grade of detail and resolution, precision and attack. The choise of MM, LOMC, MI, HOMC depends a lot on what chain of signal you have. However, there might be quite a few cartridges within these criterias. If you go close to or a bit under 12 µm/mN the best is that the cartridge total mounting mass gets closer to 15g and if you get close to or a bit over 16 µm/mN best choise is if cartridge total mounting mass gets closer to 5 gram. This means that the best match would ideal have to have a dynamic compliance of between 12 and 16 µm/mN and have a total mounting mass of between 5 and 15 grams. If you choose to use another cart, you should beware that the arm has an effective mass of 12.5g.
